What does your motorcycle cover ?

Injury or death to other people

CTPL is required to register or renew with the LTO. It covers injury or death to other people caused by your motorcycle, not your own motorcycle and not your own injuries as the rider.

Damage to your own motorcycle

Comprehensive cover protects your motorcycle against damage, usually together with third-party cover. Check the limit and how your motorcycle is valued.

Theft

Comprehensive plans usually cover theft, but the terms differ. CTPL does not. Check what you must do if the motorcycle is stolen.

Acts of nature

Typhoons and flooding are a real risk in the Philippines. Some comprehensive plans include acts of nature; check that yours does.

Personal accident, on top

A separate policy that pays a benefit for injury or accidental death, which CTPL does not pay to you as the rider. Some comprehensive plans offer it as an extra.

Repairs and claims

Ask where the motorcycle can be repaired, whether you can choose the workshop, the excess you pay on each claim and what you must send to file.

Three things to know before you ride

You need it to register or renew with the LTO. It covers other people, not you and not your motorcycle.

Damage and theft are covered on most comprehensive plans, together with third-party cover. Check acts of nature and the excess.

  2. Second step

    Take photos, get the report

Photograph the scene, the plates and the damage, and get a police report where needed. Claims move faster when the report and the photos are complete.

  3. Third step

    Tell your advisor

Message Crux as soon as you can. We tell you which documents to send and follow the claim with you.

What this cover does not do

No fine print. Rosa gives you the plain list.

Motorcycle insurance covers the damage and the liability the policy names. It usually excludes:

  • Damage to your own motorcycle under CTPL. CTPL covers injury or death to other people only.
  • Your own injuries as the rider under CTPL. Personal accident cover is a separate policy.
  • Riding without a valid licence, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Deliberate damage, and racing or similar use.
  • Wear and tear, and mechanical or electrical breakdown.
  • Use that does not match what you declared, for example deliveries on a policy declared as private use.
  • Damage that happened before the policy started.
  • Typhoon and flood damage, unless your comprehensive plan includes acts of nature.

Exclusions differ from plan to plan. Read the policy wording, and an advisor can go through them with you before you buy.

The FAQ, in plain words

Straight answers about motorcycle insurance.

Yes. CTPL is required to register or renew a motorcycle with the LTO. It covers injury or death to other people, not your own motorcycle or your own injuries as the rider.

Comprehensive plans usually cover theft, but the terms differ. CTPL does not. Check the wording and what you must do if the motorcycle is stolen.

A COV is a Certificate of Validation that the LTO has been introducing for CTPL, region by region. Whether it applies to you depends on the current LTO rules, so confirm before you buy.

CTPL is the legal minimum and protects other people. Comprehensive cover also protects your own motorcycle against damage and theft, and can add extras. Check the policy wording for what your plan includes.

Many insurers and agencies let you buy online or through an advisor. Have your OR/CR, ID and motorcycle details ready, choose the cover, pay online and receive the policy by email.

Personal accident cover is separate. It pays a benefit for injury or accidental death, which CTPL does not pay to you as the rider. Some comprehensive plans offer it as an extra.
