Insurance Types FAQ
What are the different kinds of insurance in the Philippines?
The main kinds of insurance in the Philippines are: (1) Health Insurance — covers medical and hospital costs; (2) HMO — prepaid routine health care at a network; (3) Life Insurance — death benefit for your family; (4) VUL — life insurance + investment fund; (5) Critical Illness — cash payout on serious diagnosis; (6) Non-Life Insurance — covers property, vehicles, and business.
What is the difference between life insurance and health insurance in the Philippines?
Life insurance pays a benefit when you die (or at plan maturity). Health insurance pays for medical treatment while you are alive. Both are essential: health insurance keeps you alive, life insurance protects your family after you are gone. AXA offers both.
What is VUL insurance in the Philippines?
VUL (Variable Unit-Linked) insurance is a life insurance product with an embedded investment fund. A portion of your premium pays for life insurance protection; the rest is invested in funds (equity, bond, or balanced). Over time, your fund value grows and can be withdrawn or used to pay premiums. AXA MyLifeChoice is one of the most popular VUL plans in the Philippines.
Is PhilHealth a type of insurance?
Yes. PhilHealth is a government-mandated social health insurance program in the Philippines. However, it only covers basic hospitalization at fixed rates in accredited hospitals. Private health insurance like AXA GHA provides much higher coverage (up to ₱175M) at any hospital worldwide. Most Filipinos need both PhilHealth and private health insurance.
